Napier

The North Island story goes on. After Tongariro, we went to the beautiful seaside town of Napier. It is renowned as the Art Deco capital. After being destroyed in the early 1930's by a rather ruthless earthquake (if that sounds English), they rebuilt it following the architectural fashion of that time, ie Art Deco. And we got there right in time for the Art Deco festival... Rock on!

And since it was the Art Deco festival, the town went back 70 years: people dressed in the old way and took their old cars out of the garage...

Yay!
