Watarrka (day 1)

I joined the Rock Tour to go and discover the Red Centre in three days. It was great fun but so hot. Our first hike was in Watarrka (Kings Canyon). As you reach the beginning of the trail, a sign tells you that you shouldn't do the hike if the temperature is above 36 or 37 degrees. We started it when it was 41 and as we hiked, the temperature rose to a hardly bearable 47 degrees. The rule was: 1 litre of water per hour...

You shouldn't have vertigo...

Traces of an inner sea which was there a loooong time ago. Actually, parts of the canyon look like a giant empty swimming pool, which it actually used to be.

We spent the night sleeping outside, in swags, which look like big sleeping bags into which you wrap yourself (a bit like a fajita).

The bus.
